Write Up. Professor Dr. Ekram Abdel Salam published the first medical genetic article in Egypt in 1962 and established the first Medical Specialized Genetic Center in Egypt at the faculty of Medicine – Cairo University 1982. She also published the first article in literature on the relation between tissue-typing and schistosomal fibrosis 1979. She has made tremednous contributions to medical genetics in Eygpt and is a member of many local and International Scientific Medical Societies which include.
(a) Head of the Egyptian Society for GeneticPediatric Diseases,
(b) Regional Representative of International Cystic Fibrosis Association
(c) Regional representative of WAMDA(World Association on Muscular Diseases). One of her most prestigious awards was the WHO prize for Down Syndrome Research. In adition to over hundred publications, she has also written 5 books which makes her one of the most prolific scientists in Africa and one who many scientists emulate. She has also participated in the establishment of the New Pediatric Hospital at Cairo University and has been reponsible for the introduction of Medical Education Techniques in the Facilty of Medicine at Cairo University.

Initiative Activities:
(a) Establishment of the first Medical Genetic Unit in Egypt at Cairo University (1962), which became a separate Specialized Unit (1982), she chairs the activities of this unit which includes in addition to the laboratory an outpatient clinic receiving about 1500 new cases per year.
(b) Establishment of medical genetic school by supervising 87 M.D. thesis and 165 M. Sc.thesis.
