Senior Management
Chief Scientific Officer and Founder Dr. Collen Masimirembwa was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry. He is a biomedical pharmacologist by profession with special interest in sciences and technologies of drug discovery and development. After obtaining PhDs in Biochemistry and in Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of Zimbabwe and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden respectively, he did a two year postdoc at Uppsala University in Sweden. He then joined AstraZeneca Pharmaceutical Company where he worked as a Principal Scientist for about 8 years. He then initiated a project to promote pharmaceutical sciences in Africa. He is the founding Director and current President and Chief Scientific Officer of the African Institute of Biomedical Science and Technology.

Director Infrastructure Development and Lab Management Mr Lazarus Chirombe (Mr C) trained as a Science Lab Technician and worked for the University of Zimbabwe. After years of experience at the UZ Department of Biochemistry he then joined AiBST in 2003 as Laboratory Manager. One of the AiBST Pioneers, Mr C was instrumental in the setting up of the Institute and Laboratory as well as other site in Kenya.

Chief Accountant Mr Nhando has worked for the Ministry of Educatiob as a high school teacher for several years after which he joined the private sector starting at COTCO as an Assistant Accountant. He gained experience in financial aspects of contract farming and manufacturing. He then moved on to Exor Holdings before joining AiBST.

Front Office Manager
Mildred joined AiBST as the Front Office Manager. She is a holder of a Diploma in Secretarial Administration and Public Relations. Currently she is studying for a degree in Human Resources with the University of South Africa, (UNISA).

Molecular Biologist Dr. Milimo Maimbo joined AiBSt on the 1st of June 2008 as a Research Scientist in the Department of Molecular Sceinces. She recieved a MSc Degree in Biotechnology from Kochi University, Japan in 2005. In 2008 she graduated witha PhD in Biotechnology from Ehime University, Japan. Dr. Maimbo has extensive experience in molecular biology including Real time PCR, gene expression, tissue culture. Her Postdoctoral ework will be on Biobanking and Pharmacogenetics of African populations and the development of clinical pharmacodynamic tools for use in the diagnisis and treatment of infectious diseases.

PhD student Medicinal Chemistry Ms Roslyn Thelingwani joined AiBST in 2004 as an undergraduate student. She recieved an MSc in Biotechnology from the University of Zimbabwe in 2006. She is currently registered at university of Cape Town as a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry studying `In silico and in vitro ADMET properties in lead optimisation of compounds`. She has experience in HPLC and flourescent based in virto assays for enzyme characterisation as well as industrial experience working for AstraZeneca, Molndal, Sweden.

Mphil student DMPK/PD-Tox Dr S. Moyo studied for a Bachelor`s degree in Veterinary science at the University of Zimbabwe and graduated in 2007. She joined the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the same University as a resident Veterinary Pathologist: and was a Wildlife Veterinarian and Pathologist with the Zimbabwe Wildlife Group at the same time. in July 2008 Dr. Moyo joined AiBST as a Master of Philosophy student in the Department of DMPK/PD-Tox. She has experience with the entire spectrum of of medical activies from the molecular systems to the Ecosystem, the role of animal models in biomedical research as well as the impact of animals and disease on human health and well being. Her Mphil is on `the intergration of in vivo preclinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in the discovery of anti-malarial drugs`.

Biomedical Lab Technologist Miss Milcah Dhoro joined AiBST on the 1st of June as a Biomedical Laboratory Technologist. She completed a BSc Honours Degree in Biological Sciences at Midlands State University in 2004. Thereafter she joined the Tobacco Research Board as a Research Officer in the Molecular and Cell Biology Division for four years. She was also the Management Representative for the Quality Management System. She will be responsible for the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), procurement of equipment and reagents, laboratory support for, and management of research projects, and ensure that AiBST laboratories attain ISO 15189 accreditation.

Clinical Lab Scientist Vivianne joined AiBST in November 2009 as a clinical laboratory scientist. She holds a BSc (hon) in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Zimbabwe and a Masters in Public Health from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. Vivianne brought over six years of varied regional clinical and research laboratory experience. This includes working with references laboratories in the region in laboratory strengthening processes applying molecular diagnostics techniques. For example in Early Infant Diagnosis programs, HIV viral load monitoring, TB and STIs. She participates in international forums for strategic public health laboratory management and global health point of care diagnostics.

Laboratory Technician Mr Lloyd Dziwanyika is a holder of a HEXCO National Cerificate in Science and Technology. Currently he is studying Applied Biology at the Harare Polytechnic.

Assistant ICT Officer Mr Ushe Nkosana Haruzivishe joined the AiBST family with effect from 1st October 2009. on February 22, 2006 he obtained his CompTIA Network + Certified Professional Certification, Comptia A+ Certification on January 21, 2005 in Manchester England. He also holds a C++ Programming Foundation, C++ Programming, The Complete Desktop Tutor Introduction, The Complete Desktop Tutor, Understanding IT Advanced, Advanced Diploma IT Practitioner (Software Developer), OCR Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (New Clait) and European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), certificates that we’re attained in Manchester England. And a National Institute for Information Technology diploma that was attained in from NIIT in Harare, Zimbabwe Ushe is currently studying for a Cisco Networking Course.

Ms Ayleen Mufudza Trainee Biomedical Lab Technologist
Ayleen Mufudza joined AIBST in 2009 as a trainee. She studied mathematics, biology and chemistry at advanced level. She is being trained as a laboratory technologist and is at certificate level. She also holds a certificate in Polymerase Chain Reaction course from AIBST.
